New project | 80' Aluminium Sailing Catamaran
At Olivier van Meer Design, no two projects are ever the same. One moment our team is working on the restoration of a historic vessel, the next on a river cruiser or a tall ship. And now, a very different project is taking shape on our drawing boards: a fast and seaworthy 80′ aluminium sailing catamaran.
This project reflects the versatility of our team. The catamaran is designed as a true explorer, with light ice class capability and the strength required for serious cruising and long range passages. At the same time, performance remains an important part of the design. The result is a yacht conceived to cover distance efficiently, while offering the comfort and protection needed for extended time at sea.
A key part of the concept is the protected cockpit. From here, the yacht can be fully operated, keeping sailing and manoeuvring functions together in a sheltered working area. Particularly on longer passages or in more demanding conditions, this creates a practical and safe place from which to handle the yacht.
The design is being developed in two configurations. An owner’s version focuses on private use and extended cruising, while the charter version offers a layout suited to guests and professional operation. Both are based on the same platform, allowing the yacht to be tailored to the way she will ultimately be used.
With her aluminium construction, protected sailing position and ability to operate in a wide range of cruising areas, this 80′ catamaran is being developed as a genuine long distance yacht. One designed not simply around space and comfort, but around the reality of spending serious time at sea.
