New project | 24 metre River Cruiser built by SRF
An interesting new project is currently taking shape at SRF Shipbuilding in Harlingen.
Based on a design by Laurent Giles Naval Architects, Olivier van Meer Design was commissioned by the client to develop a vessel for exclusive charter use on the Canal du Midi. A key requirement was that she had to be able to pass beneath the famous Capestang Bridge, one of the lowest bridges along the canal.
At the same time, the client wanted much more than a river cruiser. The vessel also had to be suitable for sailing on the open sea. Combining these very different requirements resulted in this 24-metre River Cruiser.
The design itself presented an interesting challenge, but so did the engineering behind it. Olivier van Meer Design delivered the complete construction drawings and cutting files, together with the interior design and engineering.
Our team also developed the drawings and engineering for all retractable components on deck. These allow the air draught to be reduced when passing beneath the low bridges along the Canal du Midi.
In addition, Olivier van Meer Design is responsible for the complete project management as the owner’s representative, overseeing the build on behalf of the client throughout the project.
A very special project in which river cruising, offshore capability and practical engineering come together in one vessel.
