OVM boats on tour | Oosterschelde in New York City
Some moments remind us why certain yachts become true icons.
During the celebration of 250 years of American independence, “Oosterschelde” had the extraordinary honour of leading the international fleet of Tall Ships into New York City. Sailing past millions of spectators along the Hudson River, with the Manhattan skyline as her backdrop, she represented Dutch maritime heritage on one of the world’s most iconic stages.
For Team Olivier van Meer Design, “Oosterschelde” will always be a very special project. Our team was responsible for the complete interior, exterior and rigging design during her transformation from a former motor cargo vessel into the elegant three-masted schooner she is today.
Seeing her still sailing the world more than three decades later, and taking part in historic events such as this, is the greatest compliment a designer can receive. It is a reminder that thoughtful design is not only about creating a beautiful yacht, but about creating one that continues to inspire, wherever her voyages may lead.
